After a major reveal, Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy teases that the fight for free will continues in the upcoming episodes of season 4: 'And it’s pretty fun.'
Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy teases what the rest of season 4 holds after that major twist in episode 4. Created by Joy and Jonathan Nolan, the HBO sci-fi drama series is based on Michael Crichton's 1973 film of the same name. Westworld stars Evan Rachel Wood, Thandiwe Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Ed Harris, Luke Hemsworth, and Aaron Paul. Westworld season 4 premiered on June 26, picking up seven years after the events of season 3.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Throughout the season, the show has been following three plotlines: Caleb and Maeve's investigation leading to the newest Golden Age park, Bernard's quest to save the world, and Christina's life as a writer. All of these appeared to be happening at the same time.
Oh gosh, I’m always so bad at these questions. I mean, now that we know that Hale has won and the humans in fact have been subjugated by this new A.I. power structure, I think we have to see how the fight for free will — this time waged by humans against robots — plays out. And it’s pretty fun. You see all of our actors doing what they do best, kicking ass and exploring their lives and the realities around them.
Ever since Westworld season 1 premiered in 2016, the dystopian sci-fi series has used mystery and carefully placed reveals as tools to heighten tension, but "Generation Loss" pulled this off in the best way yet. While some viewers may have guessed C's true identity before the last episode, its reveal was still satisfying because of Caleb's fate at Hale's hands.
Now that two of Westworld season 4's threads have connected, only one remains. Noticeably, Joy made no mention of Christina's role in the upcoming episodes, leaving questions about her link to Hale's plan and what timeline she is in. James Marsden's mysterious role also needs explanation still. Hopefully, the rest of Westworld season 4's answers to these questions are just as satisfying as the latest episode.Westworld season 4 releases new episodes Sundays on HBO.
