The shooting happened around 1 a.m. after a passenger in a vehicle apparently shot fireworks at an encampment in the area, according to early reports of the incident
officer responded to the reported fireworks incident, a man in the encampment apparently threw a rock through a car window.
The officer was confronting the man who threw the rock when the car turned back toward the officer, who fired at the car. There were no injuries. The driver and passenger were taken into police custody. The police officer has been placed on leave.7/6/23 at 4 a.m. Westbound W Colfax Ave is closed at Pierce Street for investigation – detour northbound on Pierce to W 20th Ave to Wadsworth Blvd. Teller Street also closed at Colfax. Closure will last several hours.
