First look at 'West Side Story': Ansel Elgort's Tony seems smitten in Steven Spielberg remake

A first photo is out for the new movie version of the Broadway musical, starring Ansel Elgort as Tony, and Colombian-American New Jersey native Rachel Zegler as Maria. The two hold hands as their feuding friends and families surround them.The movie, about star-crossed lovers in 1950s New York from rival gangs the Jets and Sharks is in production now. In the new image, the warring groups look as though they could break out balletic dance-fighting any moment.
Also pictured flanking Tony and Maria are the Jets : Anybodys , Mouthpiece , Action , Jets leader Riff and Baby John , and Sharks : Bernardo , Quique , Chago , Chino , Braulio and Pipo . Rita Moreno, the Puerto Rican-born actress who won an Oscar for starring as Anita in the first"West Side Story" movie in 1961 , serves as an executive producer and will play Valentina, a reworked version of Doc, the candy store owner.
