The political face of West Lancashire Borough Council has changed since the 2023 local elections
Council politics in West Lancashire is entering a new chapter this week after Labour gained a clear majority in local elections and the small Our West Lancashire group lost a number of councillors who were not re-elected.
This week West Lancashire Borough Council is set to formally appoint its leader, who will then appoint the deputy leader and cabinet. These roles have all been held by Labour councillors in the past year or two, even though Labour had no overall control and the council was finely balanced. Now, Labour is in a stronger position so its presence on key roles looks likely to continue.
North Meols and Hesketh Bank saw three Conservatives, John Howard, Thomas De Freitas and Ian Eccles elected. Former Labour councillor Cynthia Dereli was not elected. Old Skelmersdale saw Labour councillors Neil Furey, Nicola Pryce-Roberts and Donna West all elected.
