'To those donating, you're helping those most in need'
A Northampton wellness centre that uses virtual reality therapy to support disabled people of all ages was burgled on Christmas Day. Social enterprise VR Therapies, based in Spencer Parade, uses VR and immersive technology to provide amazing experiences, such as swimming with dolphins or walking on the moon.
"We have got CCTV and we've got the video doorbell as well. We've got footage of him casing the joint and checking all the windows and the doors. The tablets, phones and even the cases and bags used to bring the kit into the community were pinched. Nick Wilson of Talk Mental Health decided to step in and help, launching a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs incurred as a result of the theft.
"We've got a young girl with special needs that comes in for weekly sessions and she's got selective mutism. It's not easy for her to just go somewhere else and talk to other people. This is one of the places where she feels safe enough to talk."
