New senator J.D. Vance said he hopes to work with colleague Sherrod Brown on common goals for Ohio, such as improving its manufacturing base, ensuring China doesn’t continue to cheat on trade and carrying water for the Great Lakes.

C. - Newly-minted Republican U.S. Congressman Max Miller of Rocky River had barely got the keys to his new office when he was called into a meeting over who his party members will pick to be Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Ohio’s incumbent U.S. Senators – Democrat Sherrod Brown and Vance’s Senate predecessor, Republican Rob Portman – accompanied him to his ceremonial swearing-in by Vice President Kamala Harris, which went off as planned shortly after noon. He said he’ll use the recess after he’s sworn in to travel the state to check in with his constituents and make sure their voices are being heard in Washington.”
After Miller returned from the GOP meeting, he dismissed his party’s failure to unify behind one candidate for Speaker as “going through the process, as everyone does.” He said California’s Kevin McCarthy, who previously served as House Republican Leader, deserves to be Speaker because “he did what was needed to secure the Republican majority.”
“I’m not here for the money,” said Miller. “I’m not here to get a larger platform. We don’t go on TV much and its not that we don’t have the opportunities. It’s because we’re here to get to work, and not to make a name for myself. It’s making a name for the American people.”
