Alford Manor House is a Grade II* listed building built in 1611. It is reputedly the largest thatched manor house in England.St Peter’s Church is said to be home to over 2,800 burials dating from Anglo-Saxon to Victorian times. Between November 1964 and April 1973 was considered the ‘Golden era’ at The Gliderdrome in Boston. Tom Jones, Dusty Springfield, The Who, Status Quo, Thin Lizzy, Stevie Wonder, and Elton John are among a long list of stars to have performed there during that time.Robert Manning was a medieval monk of the Gilbertine order who wrote in Vernacular English. He is said to be among the first to record our language. Some say he was the first man to write English as we read it now.
Though considered by many to be a village, Broughton formally became a town in 1974. It still has a village hall though.
