here. Attempting to attain herd immunity without a vaccine is just not going to happen, folks. It’s not a thing. To prevent our hospitals from becoming overwhelmed, we slow the spread with social distancing. There are still cases floating around, some undetected.
Also consider that for other known coronaviruses — the ones that cause the common cold, for example — a person having been infected doesn’t, and some are more susceptible to reinfection than others. Most experts agree that someone who has recovered from COVID-19 will likely be immune to reinfection, but we’re not 100% sure, and we also don’t know how long that immunity will last. The virus may also mutate year to year, like influenza.
