The Met office has issued an amber alert for 72 hours from Sunday, covering parts of Lancashire. It means "exceptionally high temperatures" are expected in parts of Preston, Blackburn, Chorley, Burnley, Accrington, Rossendale, Pendle and surrounding areas.
Earlier in the week some schools in the county told pupils they would relax uniform rules in a bid to help them stay cool. Parklands High School in Chorley said kids would be allowed to come to school in their PE kit, though other sports clothing would not be allowed.Burscough Priory Academy also said pupils could come to school without their blazer or tie, and the top button could be undone. They also recommended children brought sun cream and water to school.
