'We need more Black Londoners to give blood' London Mayor SadiqKhan writes that donating blood helps saves lives
THIS WEEK I literally rolled up my sleeves and donated blood. It was quick, painless and straightforward. Above all, it was a great feeling to know that I was making a difference and potentially saving someone’s life.
That’s why each month 1,300 donors of Black heritage are needed to give blood to help provide life-saving transfusions to sickle cell patients, as well as for use in emergencies, childbirth, during surgery and in cancer treatments. Being in Newham – one of London’s most diverse boroughs – City Hall is well placed to encourage those in the local community, as well as the rest of the capital, to register and become blood donors.
