Ohio House resolution asks Congress to make daylight savings permanent
In this Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016 photo, Dan LaMoore sizes hands for an 8-foot diameter silhouette clock at Electric Time Co., in Medfield, Mass. Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. local time Sunday, when clocks are set back one hour. COLUMBUS, Ohio – Fifty-six years ago, Congress blocked the states of the nation from permanently adopting Daylight Saving Time. On Tuesday, the lawmakers of the Ohio House State and Local Government Committee decided enough was enough.
“RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 135th General Assembly of the State of Ohio, urge the Congress of the United States to enact legislation to make daylight saving time permanent,” it states. As a resolution, the writing has no force of law even if passed by the full House and Senate. But to Rep. Rodney Creech, a West Alexandria Republican, this is a big deal. He said he gets more questions from constituents about HCR7 than he does about “important” topics.
GOP Rep. Jennifer Gross, plus Democratic Reps. Latyna Humphrey of Columbus and Dan Troy of Willowick voted against the bill. They cast their vote after the committee received its only written testimony from two men from Save Standard Time, one of whom said Ohio should embrace what he called “natural time, God’s time.”
