'We didn't realise how central Prince Philip was to the Royal Family until his death,' says Jennie Bond
The late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh was born in Corfu, Greece on June 10, 1921 and was a member of both the royal families of Greece and Denmark.
As we reflect on what would have been the late Duke of Edinburgh's 102nd birthday today, royal expert Jennie Bond has explained why the public didn't know how essential Prince Philip was to the Royal Family until after his death in 2021. "Queen Elizabeth acknowledged that work in her COP26 speech when she said that she was so pleased that both Charles and William were carrying on Philip's work. It was Phillip's work, the environment."
"He and the Queen had just be to South Africa at the time of that chat and every single report was all about the Queen, so you wouldn't even know the Duke was there as he often fell in the Queen's shadow.
