‘Watch your back:’ Ex-clerk testifies San Antonio constable upset by Ranger probe after shake-down accusation
Former constable Michelle Barrientes Vela, right, and her husband, Carlos, walk into court Thursday. Vela is on trial, fighting tampering with evidence charges stemming from an accusation that she coerced a family into giving her $300 to reserve a park pavilion they had already paid for.
Once Texas Rangers and FBI agents raided the constable’s office in September 2019 in search of records, Vela became upset, Tristan said. She told the jury that she called Texas Ranger Bradley Freeman out of fear that she would be blamed for what had occurred.
