WATCH: NYC Mayor Eric Adams says planned attack on Jewish community 'averted', MariaLeaf reports.
On Friday, the FBI and Joint Terrorism Task Force received a tip that a physical threat was going to happen at an unidentified synagogue.
Christopher Brown, 21, and Matthew Mahrer, 22, were arrested Saturday morning at Penn Station and are currently facing state charges. Federal charges could also be added, according to Mike Driscoll, the assistant director of the FBI field office in New York. "At the current time, we have no information to indicate there is any continued threat to the Jewish community or to any community here in New York associated with this case," Driscoll added.New York City Mayor Eric Adams says the suspects made"antisemitic and threatening posts online, including making references to an armed attack against a synagogue."
Adams said that after the arrest, police recovered a ghost gun with an extended 30-round magazine, a Glock semi-automatic firearm, a large hunting knife, a black ski mask, and a Nazi armband. "Hate is on the rise in America," Adams said."It has become normalized by politicians and celebrities, amplified by social media and cable news, and weaponized by the easy availability of guns in this country."Adams said city law enforcement"must and will be vigilant" during the holiday season.
