Meghan reads to the newly 1-year-old Archie, who is squirmy but so eager he picks up a new book before the first is finished
to celebrate his first birthday on May 5. The couple marked their son’s special day by reading one of Archie’s favorite story booksfor the Save with Stories campaign spearheaded by Save the Children, an effort to support vulnerable children in the UK and US during the coronavirus pandemic.
Dressed in a white T-shirt Archie, who appears to have his father’s red hair and Meghan’s big dark eyes, looks delighted to be sitting on his mother’s lap, if a little restless at points. Keen to turn the pages himself, the little boy seems ready for the next story and at one point makes a grab for another board book which he then throws on the floor, causing Harry—operating the camera—and Meghan to laugh.
According to an aide, the couple wanted to share the video to highlight Save The Children’s new campaign: “As they celebrate this family moment, the Duke and Duchess wanted to continue to raise awareness around the urgency of bringing food and learning resources to millions of children.”In the UK, all funds raised will benefit Save the Children UK. The charity has put in place an emergency grants program to make sure the most vulnerable families can purchase basic items and food.
In the US, #SAVEWITHSTORIES benefits Save the Children and No Kid Hungry to help make sure children can learn and get the nutrition they need while they’re out of school during lockdown. The couple have been wary of exposing their son to the spotlight and Archie has not been seen in public since January. However, the Sussexes agreed to release the rare footage because they wanted to do something memorable and help a cause they care deeply about. The couple are said to have chosen the Save the Children’s Save with Stories campaign, which has been backed by a host of other celebrities, because it is helping children in both the US and the UK during the Covid-19 pandemic.
