WATCH LIVE ON CBS NEWS PHILLY: Philadelphia Police officials are announcing the arrest of a suspect wanted in multiple shooting deaths
PHILADELPHIA – On Friday, Homicide Unit Commanding Officer Captain Jason Smith announced the arrest of 22-year-old Derrick Jones, a suspect in two separate Philadelphia homicide cases.
Jones had been identified with the help of security video obtained by the SEPTA police department, Captain Smith said.14-Year-Old Boy Turns Himself In To Police In Connection With Shooting On SEPTA Subway Platform In Center City, Authorities Say On July 14, homicide unit investigators executed a search warrant at 6971 Forrest Avenue according to Captain Smith. They were accompanied by a SWAT unit.
Homicide investigators found Jones and took him into custody. A search of Jones’s apartment yielded a 45caliber Glock 21 Gen 4, the Commanding Officer said. Captain Smith added that the clothing believed to be worn during the homicide had also been recovered in Jones’s apartment.The firearms identification unit conducted a comparison between the recovered ballistics at Jones’s apartment and the ballistics found at the crime scenes.
