CLEVELAND, Ohio — Guardians fans can watch live online Saturday morning as the club and all of northeast Ohio gathers to bid farewell to longtime drummer and team supporter John Adams, who died earlier this week at age 71.
Adams’ funeral mass will take place at 10 a.m. and will be streamed live from the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in downtown Cleveland. Those who are unable to attend the serviceAdams played his bass drum for nearly 50 years while seated in the bleachers at old Municipal Stadium and later at Progressive Field. He became a symbol for fans in Cleveland of what true dedication and devotion to a team means. But Adams always kept his status as a local celebrity in perspective.
He credited his fellow fans, stadium workers, vendors and ushers for becoming an extended “baseball family” through the years. “The folks down there have been so great to me. I’ve gotten so much support from them, how do you say thank you to everybody out there?” Adams said in 1998. “I guess the only way is to just keep on going. That’s the best way to say thanks.”
