'We take this matter very seriously and ask that parents can warn children about the dangers of hydrant vandalism, to both themselves and their wider community.'
This is just one of the 40 incident of fire hydrant incidents recorded across the central belt in the last month. Parkhead and Rutherglen are just some of the areas where the in-cidents have occurred.
This has had a negative impact for both the fire service and water suppliers. For fire-fighters this can impact their ability to tackle fires, which increases the risk to lives and damage to properties. Gordon Pryde, Head of Prevention and Protection at the Scottish Fire and Rescue Ser-vice, has warned that “tampering with or vandalising a fire hydrant is a criminal offence and could put lives at risk”.
