Walgreens Boots Alliance will stop selling e-cigarettes at all of its U.S. drugstores as regulatory scrutiny of vaping intensifies

“We have made the decision to stop selling e-cigarette products at our stores nationwide as the CDC, FDA and other health officials continue to examine the issue,” Walgreens said in a statement Monday afternoon. “This decision is also reflective of developing regulations in a growing number of states and municipalities.”
Earlier today, the American Medical Association ratcheted up the pressure on “e-commerce sites” in an effort to curtail sales of vaping products, citing the “outbreak of serious lung injuries.” sent to the CEOs of Amazon, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Microsoft, calling on the companies to “remain vigilant against the sale of items used to create counterfeit vaping products, such as empty vaping cartridges.
“We’ve recently strengthened our policies related to tobacco sales, including a chain-wide Tobacco 21 policy , a card-all policy, and lowering the visibility of these products in our stores,” a Walgreens spokesman said Monday. “We have seen positive results from these measures, and as we’ve stated previously, we will continue to consider this issue.”
