Voters in four of Elmhurst’s seven wards face choices as they prepare to vote in the April 4 consolidated election.
In the city’s Second, Sixth and Seventh Wards, voters will choose between two candidates, while in the First Ward, voters will choose from among three contenders. All but one of the candidates met recently in the February 26 forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters in Elmhurst.
In the Second Ward, candidates Karen Sienko and Jacob Meding each hope to replace Bob Dunn, who chose not to run for the City Council in favor of a bid for a seat on the Elmhurst Park District board. In the Sixth Ward, Laura Vevers and Guido Nardini are running to replace Michael Honquest, the current Alderman who chose not to run again. In its forum, the League gave each candidate an opportunity for a one-minute introduction, followed by questions from both the League and community members. In his opening statement, Fazzini said he is a college student majoring in political science.
After thanking the League and noting the important role League observers play in reporting on local meetings, Nardini said he grew up in Elmhurst, promised to show up, take every call and answer every email and bring “character and a willingness to work” to the position. While the future is uncertain, Nardini said issues likely to come to the council include those involving development, stormwater mitigation and costs along with some unexpected issues.
Pioneer Press reached Vevers by phone recently to request her version of an opening statement and a photo, but those were not received by press time.Uncontested wards include the Third Ward, where longtime Alderman Michael Bram is running for the seat being vacated by Dannee Polomsky, who decided not to run again. Incumbents running unopposed include Noel Talluto in the Fourth Ward and James Nudera in the Fifth Ward.
