The union producing the contest said the Ukrainian president's request to make an address at the musical event cannot be granted because it would be 'against the rules'.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been blocked from making an address at the Eurovision Song Contest ahead of the final this weekend.'s request to address the event's audience on Saturday.

"The Eurovision Song Contest is an international entertainment show and governed by strict rules and principles which have been established since its creation," a statement from EBU said."This principle prohibits the possibility of making political or similar statements as part of the contest."
