A 30-year-old Nottingham charity that has helped over 50,000 young people says it has been given "breathing space" to consider its future ahead of an expected move from its current venue. Base 51, which offers services including counselling, activities and health support to people between the ages of 11 and 25, previously said it would be "devastating" if it had to leave its current home on Castle Gate.

The charity had previously been securing funding through a scheme which saw Government grants being awarded to councils for the development of youth centres in some of England's most deprived areas. But with that council funding having gone, it cost Base 51 £634,645 to run the charity in the 2021/22 year, with £200,000 of this being the costs faced to run the building.

"It's frustrating because the work is increasing. Especially with the cost of living crisis, we're seeing young people presenting for all sorts of things now."
