Virgin Galactic completes its first commercial spaceflight
Rocket plane called VSS Unity blasted three Italian astronauts to the edge of space during a 90-minute journey.
The astronauts unfurled an Italian flag after reaching a state of weightlessness, and enjoyed zero gravity for a few minutes, before returning to their seats ahead of the return journey. He later said it was a “historic moment”, writing in Italian “what a fantastic flight!” and “well done”. The company will eventually be taking paying customers on spaceflights, and says it has sold around 800 tickets over the past 10 years.
