After a package was stolen from his front steps, Mark Rober, who worked on NASA's Curiosity Rover, designed a package that appeared to contain an Apple HomePod but instead shot out glitter and a foul smell when opened — plus, it recorded thieves' reactions using cameras inside. Now, the YouTuber has a new-and-improved decoy package.
Touting a reformulated"fart spray" and biodegradable glitter, Rober posted the new video Sunday, which also features the inspiration for his original device:"Home Alone" star Macaulay Culkin.The package design is sophisticated yet simple: A box that looks like a pair of new headphones is instead equipped with four phones that record video, a spinning cup that shoots out glitter and two cans of a foul-smelling spray. The video was sponsored by Bose, the audio company.
When the lid is opened, a magnet is triggered and the device activates, shooting the glitter and spraying the bottles with a motor. "As far as I'm concerned, relatively harmless, karmic justice has never looked so beautiful," Rober says in the video.
