There have been hundreds of reports of a huge multi-coloured 'fireball' in the sky above the UK and Ireland last night, Wednesday, September 14. The sightings started in Edinburgh, moving eastwards across Scotland and into Northern Ireland and Ireland - as far south as Dublin and Wicklow.
In a tweet at 10.20pm, the Meteor Network said it had received "83 fireball reports and counting" - later adding "Most reports come from Scotland and Northern Ireland. Just surpassed 200." On Twitter, Stevie Doyle in Scotland said: "We just witnessed something bright moving west through the sky which I guess must be something burning up in the earth’s atmosphere. Caught it on the security cameras."
Greg Hughes tweeted a video of it over Donegal in northwest Ireland, saying it was "described as green and lighting up the sky" - with some people reporting that they heard "a load bang a short time later".Back in Scotland, @OfficalBeanie shared a video and asked: "Anyone else see a meteor burning up in the sky a few mins ago? Going south to north over the West coast of Scotland.
