One of the season's wildest and scariest crashes, to be sure.
With five laps remaining in Saturday night’s NASCAR Cup Series Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway, Ryan Preece’s Ford was shoved in the rear, it then slid towards the grassy apron and took Stewart-Haas Racing teammate Chase Briscoe with it.
However, when Preece’s Ford hit the transition area for the chicane on the backstretch, it launched the car into the air. The car barrel rolled at least four times in mid-air. Before stopping on its wheels, the car flipped, and barrel rolled at least a dozen times.Preece was taken to the infield care center and then transported to Halifax Health Medical Center where he remained for observation. A team statement said he was “awake, alert and mobile” and was communicating with family and friends.
Chris Buescher went on to win the race, and Bubba Wallace secured the final of 16 NASCAR Playoff berths.
