UTSA had a chance to win the game in regulation, driving 53 yards during the final minute, but Jared Sackett’s 41-yard field goal attempt as time expired drifted well right of the uprights. But UTSA responded by ripping off three straight touchdown drives and forcing Army’s only two punts of the game, sparking a 21-point swing in less than 10 minutes of game time.
The Roadrunners defense forced a three and out, and the offense followed with a lightning quick four-play, 54-yard touchdown drive. Harris hit Joshua Cephus for gains of 16 and 33 yards down to the 1, and Brady plunged in for a touchdown and a 35-28 lead with about seven minutes remaining. UTSA also had a 19-yard touchdown connection from Harris to Brenden Brady wiped out on a holding call against Tatafu during the second quarter, and Harris misfired on multiple deep shots to Joshua Cephus and De’Corian Clark that could have gone for long gains.
Passing plays of 48 and 25 yards set up a JaKobi Buchanan’s 1-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-goal during the second quarter, and a 42-yard aerial strike down to the 1-yard line set up a second touchdown for Buchanan to give Army a 21-14 lead with three seconds to play before halftime.
