Consumer will have to pay about a 4.2% increase in shipping, and Arizona nonprofits are having to make some cuts.
To combat inflation, the U.S. Postal Service has increased shipping costs. For a number of nonprofits in Arizona, it's having a significant impact."The cost of postage has been a significant concern for us, having raised over 9 times since we started sending care packages in 2004," said a spokesperson with the nonprofitThe nonprofit has sent 10,000 care packages to military troops who are stationed or deployed overseas.
"[The boxes we used to send] are bigger than the ones we send now, and these cost less than $9 to ship, and these are the ones we send now they're slightly smaller, and they're a little more than $13 in shipping now," said Hannah Piatt withThe nonprofit that started with six kids in Arizona sends 200 care packages a month to troops and say that with the increase, they'll spend over $4,000 a month in shipping.
"We've actually been considering merging the two boxes," said Piatt. "We send one care package filled with food items and one care package filled with hygiene items, and so we've been considering merging to two to save on shipping prices."More Arizona headlines
