USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter's soccer shoe game is A+ and he never wears the same pair twice, nrarmour writes. Qatar2022 | FIFAWorldCup
Landon Donovan explains why it's so important for the USMNT to take advantage of this World Cup after not having qualified in 2018.DOHA, Qatar – Growing up, Gregg Berhalter loved it when his sneakers got trashed. Holes in the toe, the soles wearing away, rips in the leather – it didn’t matter so long as the damage was visible. Worn-out shoes meant new shoes.
For a budding sneakerhead, that was like his birthday, Halloween and the last day of school all rolled into one. Even better, probably. “Our parents would never let us get a new pair until we wore out the other pair,” Berhalter said. “So we would be running through the streets, we would be beating the heck out of those shoes … so we could get a new pair.”
There’s no feeling in the world like cracking open a box of fresh, new kicks. At least, not in the world of a sneakerhead. The pull of the air flowing through the perforations of the shoe box, the sound of crackling lining paper, the fresh, new smell that comes off the shoe. That’s the feeling Berhalter craved when he and his older brother would go to the store in Bergenfield, New Jersey, to look at the sneakers and touch the sneakers and dream about the sneakers they wanted to buy.
The sensations never got old. While people outgrow many of their childhood obsessions – how many adults can still name all the different dinosaurs? Or carry stuffed animals everywhere they go? – Berhalter’s sneaker game remains strong.Gregg Berhalter loves a clean pair of shoes. 🔥
