Lieutenant William Montgomery’s plane was shot down during World War II near Arundel, West Sussex, on June 22, 1944 — his remains have recently been identified, 79 years later.

The navigator landed on the beach, he said, while the other two crew members landed one mile inland. Sgt. Crowther’s body was recovered at the time, but nothing was ever found of his two crew mates, except for an identity bracelet belonging to Montgomery.
