It is the last meteor shower of the year
of the year will coincide with the winter solstice this evening giving people hours to watch them shoot through the night sky.
Up to 10 meteors an hour - a relatively low number for a shower - will be viewable near the Ursa Minor constellation tonight and will continue until Christmas eve.The Ursid meteors stem from a stream of debris from the 8P/Tuttle cometDr Greg Brown, astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, said: “The Ursids meteor shower is a fairly minor display occurring in late December.
A clear sky will be needed to see the Ursids, which is looking unlikely in the UK for Tuesday evening with the heavy clouds predicted across the country. The weather is predicted to be a bit clearer on Wednesday so that could be the best opportunity to see the meteors in Britain.
