Two people were in custody following a rolling gun battle along the San Francisco Embarcadero waterfront early Sunday evening in which two people were shot near Pier 39 and four others injured.
A bullet-riddled black SUV with Nevada license plates that crashed farther south on the Embarcadero at Howard St. was a focus of police investigation.A witness shared video to KPIX of what she described as a young girl on the ground and officers tending to her at the location. She said she saw a rolling gun battle between two cars and erratic driving before the SUV crashed. Video of the scene showed airbags were deployed in the crashed vehicle.
During a late-night press conference, San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott provided an update, saying there were three people injured at the second scene at Embarcadero and Howard from"errant gunfire" due to glass shards. Those injuries were not life-threatening. Scott also confirmed that of the two shooting victims injured in the initial exchange of gunfire, one suffered life-threatening injuries and the second was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.
