University of Houston football position analysis: Secondary
Houston cornerback Alex Hogan returns after missing the final seven games last season with a knee injury.Eighth in a position-by-position series looking at the 2023 Houston Cougars after spring workouts.
The Cougars were active in the transfer portal with the addition of Adari Haulcy , Brian George and Hamilton. Haulcy was a freshman All-America selection after posting 87 tackles and two interceptions in 12 games, the last nine as a starter. He had a career-best 24 tackles against Fresno State. “He can run and hit,” coach Dana Holgorsen said.
Jalen Emery played the most last season among returners, starting the final six games and finishing with 440 snaps. He had seven pass breakups. Emery and Hogan are the top candidates to alternate between corner and the nickel spot.
