Former McMaster University behavioral ecologist Jonathan Pruitt falsified and fabricated data, according to the summary of a probe given to co-authors.

“I can’t believe [the university] is actually publicly saying this,” says Kate Laskowski, who co-authored three papers with Pruitt that were specifically addressed in McMaster’s statement today. “It’s a big relief they call it fabrication, they call it falsification. They didn’t hedge their bets.” r that she was retracting a paper on which she was the first author and Pruitt a co-author. “There were an unexpected number of duplicate values that I had never previously noticed,” she shared, going on to explain that because Pruitt could also not explain the anomalies in the data, their findings—on the social behavior of ants—were ultimately unsupported by data.
