Donald Trump hit out at Oscar-winning film 'Parasite' yesterday, asking why the South Korean film won the best picture and suggesting a return of 1939 hit 'Gone With The Wind'

... [+]: Donald Trump hit out at Oscar-winning film Parasite on Thursday, asking why the South Korean film won best picture and suggesting a return of 1939 hit Gone With The Wind, a multi-Academy Award winning movie that has been criticised for perpetuating racist tropes.

Trump said at a campaign rally in Colorado: “How bad were the Academy Awards this year? And the winner is a movie from South Korea, what the hell was that all about?” He added: “We got enough problems with South Korea with trade and on top of it, they give them the best movie of the year,” before he said: “can we get Gone With The Wind back, please?” He also mentioned Sunset Boulevard and “so many great movies.”

His quips got back to NEON, the studio that produced the Korean language hit film. The company tweeted: “Understandable, he can't read,” alongside the hashtags #Parasite #BestPicture #Bong2020.: The Gone With The Wind film, adapted from Margaret Mitchell’s Pulitzer-winning 1936 novel, has a complicated legacy. The historic epic is regarded by some as an American classic, a box office smash hit, and broke barriers with star Hattie McDaniel's Academy Award a first for a black actor.
