The Chinese internet didn’t react kindly to one UBS economist’s pig remark
UBS Group AG placed one of its top economists on leave after a comment he made earlier this week sparked furor among Chinese securities professionals.
Paul Donovan, chief economist at UBS Global Wealth Management in London, made the comment in a podcast earlier this week in a discussion of rising consumer prices in China and attributed part of the increase to sick pigs, referring to the impact of African swine fever on pork prices in the country.
