When it comes to increasing concerns over the latest covid variant, the president is expected to announce a new strategy to tackle it:

, it is likely to contain stricter travel requirements for anyone entering the U.S., including Americans.

At present, vaccinated travelers need to test no more than three days before departing for the U.S., whilst unvaccinated travelers need to test negative no more than the day before. However, the White House is reportedly concerned about the lead time it might take in finding out information on the new Covid-19 variant Omicron and that any concrete information about transmission and severity of the new variant might take a few weeks. The concern would be that a travel strategy wasn’t put in place quickly enough to combat the virus over winter.

bringing in pre-departure testing, no more than one day before departure, for everyone, regardless of vaccination status.asking everyone arriving to self-isolate for a period of 7 days, even if they test negative.Clearly, the order has not yet been finalised but it would follow for everyone to get retested 3-5 days after arrival into the U.S. or to quarantine for 10 days after arrival.would not be part of any strategy, where the main focus would be on vaccinations and booster shots. The President added that both vaccinations and boosters would continue to be free of charge to American individuals.

Doughty said the CMS lacked the authority to issue a vaccine mandate that would require more than 2 million unvaccinated healthcare workers to get a coronavirus shot.
