Two Newark, New Jersey, police officers are in stable condition after being shot in a confrontation with a gunman, authorities said Tuesday.
One officer was shot in the face and shoulder, and the other in the leg. Officials have not released the identities of the officers.The officer with the gunshot wound to the face and shoulder is in stable condition after undergoing surgery and is being kept in the hospital overnight, according to Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Frage.
The shooting occurred at an apartment building in a neighborhood near the Newark Liberty International Airport. The officers were attempting to serve a warrant on a person identified as having been involved in a previous shooting incident, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka said during a Tuesday night press conference.
