Salt Lake City Police Department investigators on Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, respond to a scene downtown where a deceased man was found dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Two 15-year-old were arrested on murder charges after police said they fatally shot a 23-year-old man.
Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department stated that this investigation began just before 1:45 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, when a community member called dispatch and reported seeing a man down on the ground at 600 East 200 South. Both fire and medical personnel responded and determined that Rory Swimm had been shot. Swimm eventually died on scene.Pursuant to this investigation, detectives with SCLPD's Homicide Squad, SWAT Team, Gang Unit, and Violent Criminal Apprehension Team executed several authorized search warrants.
Following these search warrants, members of the Homicide Squad booked two 15-year-olds into the Salt Lake County Juvenile Detention Center.Officers said that the shooting did not appear to be random and that they believe the two suspects had gone out looking form Swimm and his friends following an argument that had taken place earlier that morning.Both suspects were taken into custody without incident.
"Because both suspects are juveniles, the Salt Lake City Police Department is not releasing their names," officials stated.
