Twitter, now owned by Elon Musk, limited moderation tools that help monitor and stop misinformation – right before the U.S. election
the formation of a “content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints.” However, the Twitter CEO didn’t go into details on who would make up that council, how membership would be determined, or what types of aspects of “content” they would control. He also tweeted that “[no] major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes” and in a different post, he stated he hadn’t made “any changes to Twitter’s content moderation policies” at the time.
The drastic change in content moderation could potentially affect Twitter’s Trust and Safety team’s ability to both monitor and enforce moderation policies ahead of the U.S. midterm election on Nov. 8.
