Customers used more than 33,000 megawatts of power on Friday, Dec. 23 at around 7 p.m. – the highest that the service has ever seen during a winter peak.
The Tennessee Valley Authority, which provides power to much of north Alabama, hit a few records amid a historic cold front this weekend.
“We are grateful for our 153 local power company partners, large customers and communities as we worked together to ensure a stable power grid for us all,” the TVA tweeted Monday afternoon. “We recognize that these planned temporary disruptions are a challenge, but it was needed to maintain grid stability for 10 million people across seven states,” TVA said
