An instance of active tuberculosis has been identified in a community member of the Auburn School District, according to Seattle & King County Public Health.
According to Public Health, authorities are working to determine the extent of any potential tuberculosis exposures and are conducting evaluations for those exposed.
Tuberculosis, or TB, is an infectious disease caused by bacteria that is spread from person to person through the air. TB is much harder to spread than the cold or the flu and will take repeated and prolonged exposures in confined indoor spaces to become infected with TB. According to Public Health, about 175 people from Auburn Mountainview High School and Auburn High School are being recommended to be evaluated for TB, based on the amount of time they may have been exposed.The people who may have been exposed will be contacted directly by the school district. If you are not contacted, you are not considered at risk.
The person in the Auburn School District with TB is receiving treatment and is not at risk for infecting others.
