Donald Trump plans to visit Alabama on Friday following a series of tornadoes that killed around two dozen people

. The state also experienced severe flooding in the days leading up the tornadoes, prompting Gov. Kay Ivey to declare a state of emergency.Visits to disaster sites have led to some of the president's most memorable — and eyebrow-raising — moments. During a trip to Puerto Rico, Trump puzzled observers when he threw paper towels at residents after Hurricane Maria.

The visit also comes soon after Trump's FEMA administrator Brock Long resigned, following a series of criticisms about the agency's response to Hurricane Maria and Long's personal use of federal cars. Long's , Jeffrey Byard, formerly held several leadership positions in Alabama's emergency management agency.

Trump said Tuesday he would visit Alabama and the vicinity, adding an itinerary would be released soon.
