Afghanistan has become a hotbed for criticism of Biden as some draw comparisons to Vietnam and warn the Taliban's takeover could increase threats of terrorist attacks on the United States. Biden promised the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, where forces have been for more than two decades, would be responsible, deliberate and safe. He rejected comparisons to Vietnam, telling reporters on July 8 that there would be"no circumstance where you see people being lifted off the roof of an embassy," as was the case in Saigon. At the time, Biden also said the likelihood of the Taliban"overrunning everything and owning the whole country is highly unlikely.
