Former President Donald Trump said he has lost interest in Twitter amid speculation he could be reinstated by the company's new highest stakeholder.
Trump, who filed a lawsuit against Twitter to make a return, now says he would not start tweeting again, even if Tesla CEO Elon Musk took over the social media platform and unlocked his account. There is speculation Musk could seek to reinstate Trump on the platform in the interest of improving the platform's free speech credentials.
"Well, I'm doing a big account now, we're doing a big platform right now, so I probably wouldn't have any interest," Trump told Sirius XM radio host Maria Herrera Mellado on Wednesday."Twitter's become very boring. They got rid of a lot of their good voices on Twitter, a lot of conservative voices.
Twitter's ownership could change hands soon. Musk sent a letter to Twitter board Chairman Bret Taylor on Wednesday offering to purchase the social media company at $54.20 per share in cash. The offer was made after Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal announced on Sunday that Musk decided not to join the company's board of directors despite the billionaire purchasing a 9.2% share in the company. The board of directors met on Thursday to discuss the offer.
Trump also has less incentive to rejoin the network since the launch of his own social media alternative, Truth Social. Since the app was released in February, it has endured technical problems and declining sign-up numbers.
