White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany defended her decade-long record of voting by absentee mail-in ballot, but attacked efforts to expand absentee ballot access due to coronavirus.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany defended her record of voting by mail for the past decade, while opposing expanded absentee ballot access.

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany holds her first on-camera news conference in the James Brady Press Briefing Room at the White House May 01, 2020 in Washington, DC.WASHINGTON – White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany defended her decade-long record of voting by mail, arguing Wednesday that her public opposition to expanding mail-in voting for other people is not incompatible with her personal use of mail-in ballots.

McEnany's claim on Wednesday that Democrats want to "expand mass mail-in voting without a reason" ignored the threat of the coronavirus, which has killed about 100,000 Americans in the past four months. In Washington, Republicans have loudly opposed state efforts to expand ballot access by mail in light of the coronavirus threat, and few more so than Trump himself.

When asked how he squared his own practice with his opinion of mail-in voting, Trump replied, "Sure, I can vote by mail. Because I'm allowed to."
