Displaying his bizarre penchant for drawing out embarrassing controversies way longer than necessary, Trump was still insisting this morning that Dorian was projected to hit Alabama
Photo: Tom Brenner/Bloomberg via Getty Images The president of the United States loves visual aides, though when he employs one to illustrate an idea, it tends to reveal more about him than the problem at hand. On Wednesday, the map of Hurricane Dorian he waved before reporters put on display a few of his dominant traits — stubbornness, a willingness to lie — in addition to an oddly shaped bubble drawn in black Sharpie on the National Hurricane Center forecast.
As the error made its way into the news cycle on Monday, rather than admit to a simple mistake and move on, Trump insulted ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl for broadcasting the claim. Shortly after the Wednesday press conference with the doctored image, Trump posted a picture from last week from the South Florida Water Management District that provides some evidence for his claim. Unfortunately for Trump — and whatever staffer had to dig through projections to find one that loosely involved Alabama — the picture itself says that National Hurricane Center projections “supersede this product.” No NHC maps ever projected Dorian to cross into Alabama.
