Donald Trump may not want a high-profile congressional debate on war with Iran, but he might not have much say in the matter

President Donald Trump may not want a high-profile congressional debate on war with Iran, but he mightJust as military tensions reach new heights with Tehran, the Senate is taking up its annual defense bill next week — a must-pass Pentagon policy measure that will put the president’s Iran approach in the spotlight. And Democrats are seizing on the chance to try to rein Trump in — demanding a vote on an amendment that would require congressional approval for a military confrontation with Iran.

But the stakes with Iran are much bigger, with Democrats and some Republicans warning against stumbling into another endless and costly war in the Middle East without proper congressional approval.
