CODA star Troy Kotsur delivers emotional Best Supporting Actor acceptance speech
In his speech, Kotsur commended director Sian Heder for being a great communicator in bringing together the D/deaf community and hearing community through the film.co-star Marlee Matlin who won Best Actress in 1987In his speech, he championed the Deaf theatre companies that helped him hone his craft."I really want to thank all of the really wonderful deaf theatre stages where I was allowed and given the opportunity to develop my craft as an actor.
However, in the most personally moving part of his speech, he thanked his father, revealing that he had become paralysed in a car accident and was no longer able to sign.He said:"My dad, he was the best signer in our family, but he was in a car accident and he became paralysed from the neck down, and he no longer was able to sign. Dad, I learned so much from you. I’ll always love you. You are my hero.
