Puerto Rico has declared a state of emergency as it braces for approaching Tropical Storm Dorian
: , with Donald Trump approving the move and releasing federal assistance.
The Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency will direct resources and assistance to the U.S. territory which is still recovering from devastating hurricanes Maria and Irma in 2017.for Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, with Dorian expected to develop into a Category 1 hurricane by Wednesday night.
The southeast side of the island was battered by winds of up to 60 mph on Tuesday, according to the NHC. Up to six inches of rain is expected, with forecasters warning of “life-threatening flash floods.”: Governor Wanda Vazquez Garced urged on Tuesday: “We decree a state of emergency to activate the protocols and the necessary response personnel. We urge citizens to activate their emergency plan with peace of mind and stay tuned.
